Introduction
The rapid advance of technology lets us transform, automate and digitalise the way we work, and become more efficient. As a software development company, CodeYard works at the forefront of digital transformation, helping our clients make the most of what technology has to offer. In this Trans-Sped case study, we show how we built a bespoke, Android-based tablet app to manage freight forwarding processes, bridging communication gaps and improving how the business runs.
Trans-Sped's problem
Trans-Sped is a progressive freight forwarding company that had problems with communication between its drivers and office staff. Tasks, documents and information had to be handed over on paper, a process that was time-consuming and prone to errors. Updating the status of shipments was also cumbersome, as drivers had to report to the office staff by phone.
Our solution
CodeYard analysed Trans-Sped's workflows and assessed its needs, then developed an Android-based tablet app that significantly improved how the company operates. The app sent freight jobs directly to the drivers' tablets, where drivers could accept the work, submit status reports and chat with the office staff.
The most important improvement, however, was GPS-based route planning and the digital handling of shipping documents. Drivers can start route planning on the tablet, so they can navigate between destinations quickly and efficiently. Shipping documents such as the CMR can be sent to the office staff straight away using the mobile scanner, so the staff can start processing them immediately.
The impact of digitalisation
After introducing the app, Trans-Sped saw a significant improvement in its workflows. Thanks to automated task handover and continuous communication, drivers could spend more time on haulage, while the office staff could handle administrative tasks faster and more efficiently.
In addition, with the mobile scanner, shipping documents became available digitally to the office staff straight away. This fast and accurate flow of information significantly reduced the number of errors and sped up the shipping process.
Why digital transformation matters
Trans-Sped's case is a good illustration of the spread of digitalisation trends and of the need to automate and digitalise workflows. Bringing digital technologies into workflows not only increases efficiency but also reduces costs, creating added value for the company.
Conclusion
We believe that technology-driven solutions create added value and help companies grow in the digital age. Trans-Sped's success shows that digitalisation can reshape the way a business is run and make companies more competitive in today's fast-changing world.
